3rd February

Cooly Rocks On, together with Gold Coast Holiday Homes are excited to officially announce the rock ‘n' roll dance contest that will bring you and your partner to Coolangatta for Australia's hottest new nostalgia festival.

You can win five days and nights in a two bedroom apartment for up to four people at the luxury beach front Calypso apartments at Coolangatta and return airfares for two from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.

And all you have to do is dance!

It's a competition for all of you rock 'n' roll fans who love to strut your stuff. All you'll need for this competition is a:

· Boom box (CD player/ipod) or similar to play music
· Video camera to record the action
· Dance partner
· Volunteer to hold the camera
· A copy of the Cooly Rocks On logo (under Downloads section at www.coolyrockson.com)

Cooly Rocks On wants to see how passionate you really are with your 50s and 60s rock 'n' roll dancing.

This competition could get you and your partner's talents seen anywhere in the world - it's limited only by your imagination and creativity.

Cooly Rocks On operations manager Bob Newman wants the world to see the talent Australia's got on offer.

"We are looking for a couple who have a good dancing style and who are not afraid to show it off anywhere in the world," said Newman.

"The more imagination and creativity the better, therefore if you're on the top of the Empire State building in the USA, on an ocean liner in the Suez Canal or in the middle of the Sahara Desert and just happen to have the music, video camera copy of the CRO logo and willingness to show off then we want you to go for it."

Once you have captured your style on video, send it in on DVD or upload it on to You Tube [if you don't know how to ask a 12 year old to show you] send us the link and the winner will be judged by the Cooly Rocks On panel.

The criteria we are looking for is:

· Imagination and creativity - where you have chosen to dance
· Dance - it must be rock 'n' roll of the 50's or 60's era
· Music - it needs to be loud enough for the judges to hear to ensure you're in time with it
· Time - it must be at least 60 seconds
· Legal - where you chose to do your dance must not break any laws or harm anyone in any way
· Fun - as per the era you must be having a good time.

The winners will receive five nights accommodation at Calypso, right on Coolangatta Beach and if you do not live in South East Queensland or Northern NSW, flights to Gold Coast airport in Coolangatta for the very first COOLY ROCKS ON for you and your dance partner, in the video.

The competition is open to everyone; however the return flight component of the competition for the winners, is only available for flights from Australia and New Zealand capital cities to the Gold Coast airport.

So put your dancing shoes and your thinking caps on and get out there and rip it up... and as a very famous rock 'n' roll band used to sing... "rattle those pots and pans!!"

COOLY ROCKS ON DANCE PARTY DOLLARS A RELIEF FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

Over $5,000 is expected to be raised from Cooly Rocks On’s successful Flood Relief Dance Party at Tweed Heads Civic Centre on Sunday.

A delighted Cooly Rocks On Festival Operations Manager Bob Newman said the final figure would be confirmed later in the week but he proclaimed the day a huge success.

Over 250 people attended the day with over 150 rock ‘n’ rollers treated to four hours of entertaining rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly music.

The day started with a colourful display of over 30 cruisers and hot rods with Cooly Rocks On Car Committee chairman Steve Bowman organising a wonderful afternoon of show ‘n’ shine.

Dance Party MC Dee Jay Jimmy D kick-started the toe-tapping, interspersed with wonderful performances from The Chevrolets, Forever Everly, ‘Diamond’ Doug Wilshire and the Tailspinners, Snap, young Gold Coast big band Toe Jammin’, with Gold Coast’s ‘Mr Entertainment’ Dean Vegas providing a spectacular finale of Elvis Presley’s smash hits.

“It was great for Cooly Rocks On to provide a community based event to raise funds for our less fortunate cousins who have been devastated by the floods,” said Mr Newman.

“I know everyone associated with Cooly Rocks On was so keen to come along and let the people know that the rock ‘n’ roll nostalgia communities were right behind the flood victims.

“On behalf of the Committee I would like to thank all our supporters, sponsors, suppliers, volunteers and entertainers who provided their services for a great cause.”

COOLY ROCKS ON DANCE PARTY FOR QUEENSLAND FLOOD VICTIMS

Rock and Roll Nostalgia enthusiasts will get an early taste of this year’s Cooly Rocks On Festival at Tweed Heads on Sunday, January 30 with a special Queensland Flood Relief Dance Party.

Tweed Heads Civic Centre will play host to a red hot array of talent at the “Mini Cooly Rocks On” with all proceeds supporting the Queensland flood victims.

Popular Dee Jay Jimmy D will host the Dance Party with organisers already confirming an all-star line up featuring:

• Popular Gold Coast Elvis Presley impersonator Dean Vegas;
• Multi-award winning 60s showband “The Chevrolets”;
• Forever Everly – A tribute to the music and vocal harmonies of the Everly Brothers
• Award winning vocal harmony group Snap;
• Rockabilly band “Diamond” Doug Wilshire and the Tailspinners and;
• Popular young big band The Toetappers.

A display of Classic Cars and Hot Rods will also be on display from 4pm (NSW time) 3pm (Qld time) with the Dance Party kicking off at 6pm (NSW) 5pm (Qld time).

Cooly Rocks On Operations Manager Bob Newman said it was the least his organisation could do to help the South East Queensland flood victims.

“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by the devastating floods of last week and when we started to toss around the idea of a fundraiser, the bands and performers had no hesitation in putting their hands up,” said Newman.

“All the bands, performers, car owners and enthusiasts are donating their time and have rearranged their schedules to be there so I’m sure it will be a great evening. We are delighted with the response we’ve had.

“It’s the least Cooly Rocks On can do to help those people affected by the floods – some people have lost everything – it’s a very sad situation indeed.

“But we see this event as a great way for the community around Coolangatta-Tweed Heads to come together for the Flood Relief so we encourage everyone to dig deep and support the Dance Party on Sunday week.

“The Civic Centre has donated the hall for free, the caterers are providing free finger food and I’m sure it’s going to be wonderful way to get together to help those who are really struggling.”

FREE finger food will be available with full bar facilities at the Civic Centre.

TICKETS: $25 per head available at the door.

TODAY SHOW’S BLUE SKIES FOR COOLY ROCKS ON

The skies cleared and there was a little ray of sunshine at Coolangatta this morning when Channel Nine’s Today Show introduced Cooly Rocks On – Australia’s hottest 'new' Rock 'n' roll Nostalgia Festival to the nation.

Cooly Rocks On will attract over 50,000 people into the Gold Coast-Tweed Heads region between June 3 and 13 next year for a week-long celebration of 'Happy Days' culture – for a festival that represents everything that was cool about the 1950s and ‘60s and everything that’s hot about 2011.

Thanks to Gold Coast Tourism, Cooly Rocks On joined singing sensation Guy Sebastian on the same billing, as hundreds of locals took advantage of a morning break in the non-stop rain that has hit South East Queensland.

Today Show weather host Stevie Jacobs introduced the Cooly crew to Australia, with three of the Classic Cars to be featured in next year’s Festival, front and centre including the famous Gold Coast surf Woody along with surfing legend Bob McTavish and the team from the Surf World Museum at Currumbin.

Cooly Rocks On Classic Cars and Hot Rod chairman Steve Bowman had two of his cars on display – just a small sample of what visitors to next year’s festival can see.
They were joined by leading Queensland rock 'n' roll band Shindig featuring Peter Brown on guitar and vocals; David Lee-Jay on drums and vocals and Rex Harris on base and vocals and rock 'n' roll dancers from the Gold Coast Rockers, Lynne and Dale Tomkins and Heather and Andy Brown who kicked up their heels.

Cooly Rocks On Operations Manager Bob Newman said it was a great way to showcase the new look festival.
“What better way to showcase Cooly Rocks On than to be featured on national television – we wanted to let Australia know that Gold Coast-Tweed Heads will be the place to be next June,” said Newman.
“We have spoken to Gold Coast Tourism about promoting the festival not just in Australia but also to capture the overseas market as well. We hope to attract people from all over Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and California. June on the Gold Coast is a pretty nice time to come and let your hair down and we aim to give people a good time when they get here. To have the Today Show team at Coolangatta was a wonderful opportunity for us and the buzz around the town is absolutely fabulous. I just want to take this opportunity to thank Gold Coast Tourism and Today for what they have done to promote the Southern Gold Coast and a festival which I know will be a lot of fun. The streets might be flooded with rain this week but come next June the place is going to rock and the streets will be packed with the best rock 'n' roll nostalgia festival you’ve ever seen.”

OVER 1000 CLASSIC CARS EXPECTED FOR COOLY ROCKS ON 2011

Organisers of next year’s Cooly Rocks On Festival have today re-affirmed that over 1000 Classic Cars and Hot Rods will attend next year’s new look Rock ‘N Roll Nostalgia Festival in the Gold Coast-Tweed Heads region.

The Cooly Rocks On Organising and Car Committees are working tirelessly to ensure that “Classic Cars” aspect of the festival is going to be bigger and better that ever.

“The response from our Car Committee has been overwhelming to say the least – and we’re actually looking for a record number of cars, maybe as many as1200,” said Festival Operations Manager Bob Newman.

“Our Festival Car Committee chairman Steve Bowman is equally excited about the “cars component” of next year’s 11-day event, between June 3 and 13. We have had some very positive meetings and it’s all systems go.”

Cooly Rocks On has announced that two additional precinct areas in Wharf Street opposite Twin Towns Services Club and the new development at Jack Evans Boat Harbour in Tweed Heads (Cooly Rocks On, will be the first major event to be held in the new Jack Evans Boat Harbour Precinct).

Mr Newman said: “For the Customs, Classics and Hot Rods, parking will return to Griffith Street as well as Marine Parade and the two new precincts.

“The Saturday and Sunday Cruise Nights will incorporate Griffith Street which will increase the cruise distance, include the Griffith Street cafes and Restaurants and give spectators a greater choice of vantage points.”

He said the cut-off year for car entries is 31 December 1973 (Pre 1974) and vehicles or facsimiles of vehicles manufactured before that date will be accepted (space permitting and on a first in first served basis).

Midweek car events will include a Poker Run on the first weekend followed by the Tweed Rodders BBQ night at Tugun, the hinterland cruise, Customs of Australia BBQ night at their club rooms at Mudgeeraba and a cruise to the Ferry Road Diner at Southport.
